Olive Okraku, Ph.D., Registered Psychologist

 

Dr. Olive Okraku is a registered Psychologist with over 12 years of extensive clinical and research experience. She has a Master’s in Clinical Psychology and a Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology. She currently works for the Department of National Defence, providing assessment and treatment to members of the Canadian Armed Forces. She also works with RCMP members, first responders and veterans.

 

Dr. Okraku believes that all aspects of life are interconnected, that we cannot effectively address problems in one area of life without considering others. She takes a holistic approach to her clients’ therapy, working in collaboration with other psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors, social workers, physicians, nurses and community leaders to create a network of support for her clients as they improve their lives. She follows a biopsychosocial model, exploring biological, psychological, social and spiritual influences on her clients.

 

Working from a place of compassion and empathy, Dr. Okraku uses science to help clients who feel stuck or overwhelmed to recognize their inner strength and resilience. She helps clients’ struggling with trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder, war/combat-related problems, stress, mood disorders, anxiety disorders and chronic illness regain a sense of control, peace and optimism in their lives.

 

Dr. Okraku also celebrates diversity, and helps women, refugees, people of colour and other minorities live full and meaningful lives. She is well versed in wide-ranging issues, including parenting difficulties, relationship problems and women’s issues. If her clients are struggling to adapt, transition or adjust to a new place or new phase of life, she is there to help. She makes her clients feel safe, understood and supported while they heal and grow through their challenges.

 

At CRUX, Dr. Okraku offers online treatment and assessment services through easy-to-use technologies like Zoom. She conducts individual therapy and couples therapy. Dr. Okraku works with adolescents (12 to 18 years of age) and adults (19 years of age or older).

 

Dr. Okraku is a licensed psychologist registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists. Psychologists who are fully registered in other Canadian jurisdictions (such as Alberta) can provide online services to residents of other provinces. Dr. Okraku works with clients from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Alberta.
