Death by Suicide in Nova Scotia

142 Nova Scotians died by suicide in 2021. This represents Nova Scotia’s highest number of suicides. In contrast, 75 people died by suicide in Nova Scotia in 2000.

When you compare the 142 deaths by suicide in 2021 with the 75 deaths by suicide in 2000, that’s an 89% increase.

A coordinated, funded, government-led suicide prevention strategy backed by substantial funds and real timelines is needed to combat suicide in Nova Scotia.
