
Debjani Kar, M.Phil., Psychologist, Candidate Register
Ms. Debjani Kar is a seasoned mental health professional with over a decade of experience in therapy, assessment and teaching. She has worked in diverse clinical settings providing evidence-based interventions to people with complex mental health concerns. Ms. Kar holds a Master of Philosophy in clinical psychology and is completing her doctoral research on impulsivity, decision-making and planning in obsessive-compulsive disorder using event-related potentials (ERP). She has mentored future mental health professionals in university settings. When not working, Ms. Kar enjoys extreme sports such as mountaineering, scuba diving and whitewater rafting.
At CRUX, Ms. Kar uses various therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness-Based Approaches, to support clients in their healing journey. She treats a wide range of concerns including obsessive compulsive disorder, hoarding, executive functioning problems, addictions and posttraumatic stress disorder.
Ms. Kar also treats eating disorders, body image concerns and health anxiety. She treats psychosis, dissociative identity disorder, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, self-harm, sleep problems, perfectionism and stress and burnout. She also treats abuse and neglect, concerns relating to sexual orientation, loneliness, grief and loss, social anxiety and sexual dysfunction.
In addition to treating individuals, Ms. Kar also provides couples therapy, helping couples work through issues in their relationship and find new understanding with each other.
Fluent in English, Bengali and Hindi, Ms. Kar is committed to culturally responsive and trauma-informed care.
At CRUX, Ms. Kar provides couples therapy and individual therapy in-person and online through easy-to-use technologies like Zoom. She works with adults (19 years of age or older). Ms. Kar is a psychologist, candidate register with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology. Ms. Kar works with clients from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick
