Harry Stefanakis, Ph.D., Registered Psychologist
Dr. Harry Stefanakis holds a doctorate degree in psychology. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Stefanakis has worked within social services, correctional, educational and occupational rehabilitation settings. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences as well as providing training, workshops and consultation across North America, in Europe and Asia.
An experienced counselor and educator who communicates effectively with both humour and clarity, Dr. Stefanakis sees people from a wholistic perspective and attends to the integration of individuals’ emotional, mental, physical, spiritual and social dimensions of life. He treats relationship, family and couples problems; loneliness, grief and loss; separation, divorce and parental alienation; bullying and harassment; attachment problems; abuse and neglect; and social anxiety and issues with social skills. He also treats academic and work problems, including perfectionism, procrastination, stress and burnout. Expert in the cognitive and emotional patterns that can hold his clients back from personal growth, Dr. Stefanakis treats anger, anxiety, depression, pain, panic, phobias and fears, and self-criticism and self-esteem concerns. He also treats trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder and adjustment issues.
Dr. Stefanakis has published books on psychology, poetry and fiction, including Through Silence and Ash, CORE Hypnosis: A Compassion Informed Therapy and CORE Living: 8 Choices for Living Well. Through his professional and creative work, he aims to document the human experience while also using words to mend life’s fractures and inspire life-affirming possibilities. Additionally, he has been featured in video training in clinical hypnosis and ending violence and abuse campaigns.
At CRUX, Dr. Stefanakis offers online services through easy-to-use technologies like Zoom. He provides individual and couples therapy to adults (19 years of age or older). Dr. Stefanakis is a licensed psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists British Columbia (#1489). Psychologists who are fully registered in other Canadian jurisdictions (such as British Columbia) can provide online services to residents of other provinces. Dr. Stefanakis works with clients from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and British Columbia.
