Dr. Karin Christensen is a Clinical Psychologist with additional specialization in Neuropsychology. With this unique combination of expertise she assesses and treats people with a variety of health concerns and conditions. Dr. Christensen knows that degrees and knowledge help clients only when true caring and compassion are also present. She welcomes clients from all backgrounds.

Dr. Christensen has extensive experience with acquired brain injuries from any cause and of any severity. This includes strokes, concussions, drug overdoses, and traumatic injuries resulting from vehicle crashes and falls. She works with those with neurological diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease and dementia. She understands both the diseases themselves and their effects on a person’s personality, emotions, thinking and cognitive skills (e.g. memory). Dr. Christensen helps spouses, families and friends understand and cope with the changes in their loved one.

Dr. Christensen is passionate about helping people return to their lives, work, leisure activities and communities in healthy ways, even when they have an injury or disease. In the past, she has developed and led cognitive rehabilitation groups. Now, she helps her clients with rehabilitating post-acute brain injury, planning a safe and sustainable return to work, managing persistent pain or disability for which no physical cause has been found and more. She is expert in creating and implementing cognitive strategies and adaptations.

Dr. Christensen provides assessments for insurers, professional regulators, lawyers, rehab services and individuals. The neuropsychological assessments that Dr. Christensen provides result in objectively-tested and clearly-stated findings. Assessments are valuable in that they both clarify the causes of a person’s cognitive challenges and inform the development of tailored strategies to help overcome or compensate for any weaknesses.

At CRUX, Dr. Christensen offers online services through easy-to-use technologies like Zoom. She provides assessment and therapy to adults (19 years of age or older).
