Dr. Katherine Elliott

Registered Psychologist

Katherine Elliott, Ph.D., Registered Psychologist

Dr. Katherine Elliott is all-Canadian. Born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, she then pursued her Bachelors degree at the University of Calgary, in Alberta; then earned her Ph.D. at the University of Ottawa, in Ontario; and finally started practicing in Kamloops, British Columbia. Expanding her practice at CRUX means she’s well on her way to having lived, learned, or worked in every province.

Dr. Elliott is known for her compassionate, recovery-focused approach. She believes in fostering a sense of meaning and quality of life, so her clients have positive values and relationships to fall back on when they are going through difficult times. She bases her practices on mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).

She specializes in working with complex, severe and persistent mental illness. Dr. Elliott treats clients suffering from psychosis, anxiety or mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder. She encourages clients to open up and accept unpleasant feelings so they can react to them in healthier ways that better align with their values instead of trying to avoid something that is a part of their life.

Dr. Elliott understands how trauma, abuse, neglect, stress and stress-related disorders such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can make relationships, work and all other aspects of life harder. She teaches her clients healthier ways to cope with difficult thoughts, emotions, and memories. Rather than trying to control these unwanted sensations, she helps her clients develop a practice of noticing and embracing them so they can act in ways that bring meaning to their life. Sometimes the answer is not to run from or grit your way through the problem, but to take a step back and view it from a different perspective. In this way, Dr. Elliott nurtures her client’s psychological flexibility and strength.

At CRUX, Dr. Elliott offers individual therapy services online through easy-to-use technologies like Zoom. Dr. Elliott works with adults (19 years of age or older). Dr. Elliott is a licensed psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists British Columbia. Psychologists who are fully registered in other Canadian jurisdictions (such as British Columbia) can provide online services to residents of other provinces. Dr. Elliott works with clients from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and British Columbia.
