Kenneth Keeling, Ph.D., Registered Psychologist
Dr. Kenneth Keeling brings over 50 years of experience to CRUX Psychology. He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Waterloo and has studied under some of the greatest psychologists of the 20th century, including Dr. Albert Bandura, who developed social learning theory, and Dr. Albert Ellis, who developed the pioneering form of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) named rational emotive behaviour therapy. This inspired his lifelong passion for therapy, learning and teaching.
Dr. Keeling helps his clients live whole, healthy and satisfying lives. Instead of describing clients as having “mental illness”, a term often associated with negative stereotypes, he uses “problems with living”. This shift in perspective helps him and his clients focus on solutions, on overcoming or coping with their obstacles. He bases his practice in behavioural and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) but often integrates other types of therapies. He recognizes that his clients are all unique and therefore provides personalised therapy.
After being hit by a motor vehicle as a pedestrian and experiencing serious injury himself, Dr. Keeling spent over two decades working with trauma victims. He specialises in treating the struggles that often accompany trauma. These include posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), abuse, neglect, anger, anxiety, depression, grief and loss. Dr. Keeling also helps clients experiencing academic problems, addictions, behaviour problems, perfectionism, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), self-criticism, issues surrounding sexual orientation and gender identity and more.
At CRUX, Dr. Keeling provides assessments and individual therapy services online through easy-to-use technologies like Zoom. He works with adolescents (14 to 18 years of age) and adults (19 years of age or older). Dr. Keeling is a licensed psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. Psychologists who are fully registered in other Canadian jurisdictions (such as Ontario) can provide online services to residents of other provinces. Dr. Keeling works with clients from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Ontario.
