Patrick Keelan, Ph.D., Registered Psychologist

 

Dr. Patrick Keelan brings warmth, compassion and a wealth of experience to CRUX Psychology. He completed his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology at the University of Toronto and became a university instructor and researcher. His ground-breaking research on attachment styles is widely cited. He then became a registered psychologist in 2003. Dr. Keelan also uses his expertise in teaching and practice to train other psychologists.

 

Dr. Keelan uses cognitive-behavioural therapy to help clients change their thinking and behavior and address aspects of their lives which affect them negatively. He helps clients target stressful events in their lives and engage in activities that help them cope with that stress. He also helps them learn to perceive stressful events with a balanced psychological perspective. This approach helps his clients cope effectively, manage their moods and lead emotionally fulfilling lives.

 

Dr. Keelan treats a range of issues including abuse, academic problems, addictions, anger management, anxiety, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), behaviour problems, borderline personality disorder, depression, eating disorders, grief and loss, health anxiety, panic, perfectionism, phobias and fears, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), trauma, relationship problems, low self-esteem, stress and burnout. He also helps athletes and other high-performers reach their potential with sports psychology counselling. Whether they are training for marathons, triathlons, long-distance swims, karate or playing the piano, Dr. Keelan helps his clients build psychological skills to overcome challenges and succeed in their endeavours in sports and life.

 

At CRUX, Dr. Keelan offers online treatment services through easy-to-use technologies like Zoom. He provides online therapy to adolescents (12 to 18 years of age) and adults (19 years of age or older). Dr. Keelan also specializes in providing couples therapy and family therapy.

 

In addition to being a licensed psychologist registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists, Dr. Keelan is certified with the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies. Psychologists who are fully registered in other Canadian jurisdictions (such as Alberta) can provide online services to residents of other provinces.
