Shelley Skelton, Ph.D., Registered Psychologist
Dr. Shelley Skelton is an experienced registered psychologist supporting adolescents and adults. Raised in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, she has lived in Calgary since 2000, where she maintains a private practice and teaches at the university level. She holds a master’s degree in counselling psychology and a Ph.D. in developmental psychology.
Dr. Skelton specializes in counselling and trauma. She helps clients navigate concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, grief and loss, relationship challenges, academic and work‑related difficulties, perfectionism, self‑esteem issues and the impacts of abuse, neglect, or trauma. She also supports clients struggling with anger, procrastination, social anxiety, loneliness and personal growth.
Her therapeutic approach integrates cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), exposure‑based interventions, mindfulness‑based cognitive therapy and motivational interviewing. She is also the author of “The Emotional Intelligence Training Program for At‑Risk High School Students,” reflecting her long‑standing commitment to supporting youth development and resilience.
Warm, practical and collaborative, Dr. Skelton aims to help clients build skills, strengthen emotional well‑being and create meaningful change in their lives. Outside of work, she enjoys curling, golf, yoga and cycling.
At CRUX, Dr. Skelton provides individual therapy services online through easy-to-use technologies like Zoom. She works with adolescents (11 to 18 years of age) and adults (19 years of age or older). Dr. Skelton is a licensed psychologist registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists. Psychologists who are fully registered in other Canadian jurisdictions (such as Alberta) can provide online services to residents of some other provinces. Dr. Skelton works with clients from Alberta, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
