Terry McQuaid, Ph.D., Registered Psychologist

 

Dr. Terry McQuaid is a respected and accomplished psychologist with over twenty years of leadership experience in the fields of equity, mental health, and violence prevention. She holds a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology and a Masters in Health Law. Throughout her career, Dr. McQuaid has held senior positions in personal safety and emergency planning, responding to cases of sexual violence, anti-racism, high-risk matters, and community safety. She has also implemented assessment and risk management frameworks for specialized populations such as residential treatment, youth justice services, and veterans. In addition to her clinical practice, she is the Associate Vice President Student Success at George Brown College, overseeing campus services and wellbeing.

 

As in her other roles, Dr. McQuaid is dedicated to ensuring the well-being and safety of her clients and creating an environment where clients can thrive and reach their full potential. Her approach is founded in compassion. She is experienced in many treatment modalities, including acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, emotion-focused therapy (EFT), psychodynamic therapy, cognitive processing therapy (CPT), and motivational interviewing.

 

Dr. McQuaid provides therapy to adults (19 years of age or older). With her extensive knowledge and expertise, she is well-equipped to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing clients and communities today. She specializes in treating those who have suffered abuse, neglect, bullying, harassment, and trauma including those with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She also treats those experiencing emotional difficulties and mood disorders, such as anger, depression, postpartum depression, grief and loss. Dr. McQuaid also understands how anxiety can take over your life, and helps clients who have anxiety, social anxiety, health anxiety and issues with self-criticism, self-esteem, social skills and perfectionism. 

 

At CRUX, Dr. McQuaid offers online therapy services through easy-to-use technologies like Zoom. Dr. McQuaid is a licensed psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. Psychologists who are fully registered in other Canadian jurisdictions (such as Ontario) can provide online services to residents of other provinces.
