Jan Slattery, Psychology Technician
Jan Slattery is a clinical psychology Ph.D. student at Dalhousie University who provides therapy using evidence‑based approaches, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy and interpersonal therapy. Jan has experience supporting individuals with a wide range of emotional, behavioural and interpersonal concerns, including anxiety disorders, social anxiety, panic, depression, obsessive‑compulsive disorder (OCD), attention‑deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), executive functioning challenges and difficulties with sleep, stress and burnout.
Jan also supports clients navigating relationship problems, separation and divorce, parental alienation, attachment‑related concerns, loneliness, grief and loss, and challenges with self‑esteem, self‑criticism and personal growth. He helps clients address behavioural addictions (such as gambling, gaming or compulsive sexual behaviour), alcohol or cannabis‑related problems, phobias and fears, assertiveness and social skills, procrastination and work stress.
In addition to therapy, Jan provides psychological assessment services. His assessment work includes evaluations for ADHD, anxiety, depression, personality, OCD and executive functioning challenges. He also conducts psychoeducational assessments, including evaluations of cognitive abilities (such as memory, language and spatial skills), learning disorders and intellectual disabilities. Jan’s assessment approach is thorough, evidence‑based and designed to help clients better understand their strengths, challenges and the supports that may benefit them.
Alongside clinical work, Jan’s research focuses on video game use and addiction. Before entering the field of psychology, Jan worked in several different professional fields. These experiences continue to shape his grounded understanding of people, stress and change in real‑world contexts.
Jan’s therapeutic approach is collaborative, flexible and tailored to each client’s goals. Whether clients are working to build coping skills, gain clarity or make meaningful changes in their lives, Jan aims to meet them where they are and support them in moving toward what matters most.
