Maryam Abro, M.C., Registered Provisional Psychologist
Ms. Maryam Abro supports individuals at different stages of life through trauma, anxiety, mood concerns, neurodevelopmental conditions, chronic pain, relationship challenges, identity exploration and significant life transitions. Maryam is committed to working collaboratively with clients, helping them uncover resilience, strength and hope throughout their healing process.
Maryam’s professional experience includes private practice, school‑based services and community mental health work. She grounds her approach in compassion, authenticity and emotional safety, and she believes that humour—when welcomed—can be a meaningful tool for connection. She understands that exploring distress, trauma and unresolved pain requires a safe, nonjudgmental space, and she is dedicated to creating that environment for every client she supports.
Maryam uses an integrative, evidence‑based approach and tailors therapy to each client’s needs and readiness. She has training and experience in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), internal family systems, narrative therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT). Her flexible, client‑centred style supports individuals navigating concerns such as psychosis, addiction, eating disorders, emotional regulation difficulties, self‑esteem challenges, cultural identity questions and family or relational dynamics.
In addition to therapy, Maryam provides psychological assessments to clarify concerns related to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, attention‑deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism. These assessments help clients and families better understand their experiences and guide appropriate treatment planning.
Outside of her clinical work, Maryam enjoys spending time with her children, staying active and engaging in creative outlets that bring joy and balance. She loves boxing, high‑intensity exercise, good music and sharing laughter with close friends. Guided by a strong belief in advocacy and community, Maryam views her work as a privilege—one that allows her to walk alongside others as they move toward healing and growth.
At CRUX, Maryam provides individual therapy, family therapy and assessment services online through easy-to-use technologies like Zoom. She works with adolescents (11 to 18 years of age) and adults (19 years of age or older). Maryam is a provisional psychologist registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists. Psychologists who are fully registered in other Canadian jurisdictions (such as Alberta) can provide online services to residents of other provinces. Maryam works with clients from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Alberta.
